2013 Flor de Campo Santa Barbara Chardonnay by Sanford Winery
This chardonnay is the most confusing looking buttery wine we have shipped. If you pour a little in your glass, put it up against a white surface and look at the color you’d think it was a pinot grigio or light sav blanc. There is not much aroma on the wine although if you really try you can get some pear on the nose. On your first sip you get the strangest combo of a thin wine that is full of butter. There are also hints of vanilla and toasted marshmallow as well as pear and honeydew melon which compliment the butter nicely. I had to do two separate tastings because I was so surprised that a wine this thin could have enough creamy, buttery, oakyness to be included in our shipments, and we really enjoyed it!
